Introducing the Iggy Pants!

Fabric, fitting, and styling tips to help you sew these barrel-leg pants.

Posted in: Patterns • February 1, 2024

Iggy is a pair of high-waisted pants that sit right below your natural waist and feature a barrel-leg cut. These pants have deep pockets set into the side panels, and darts at the hem create the signature barrel look. The front closes with a fly and two buttons, and the back has an elastic waist so you can move comfortably and easily.

Fabric and Fit

Fabric recommendations: Look for medium-weight or heavyweight fabrics such as twill, denim, suiting, linen, linen blends, or canvas.

A medium-weight fabric, such as linen or suiting, will give a looser fit. Heavyweight fabrics such as denim and canvas will exaggerate the barrel-leg fit.

Seamwork Style Ideas

These pants are versatile, so have fun picking out garments to wear with them.

Tuck in a fitted, long-sleeve shirt, like the Jenny tee. Finish the outfit with your favorite chore coat, like the Rhett jacket.

If you want to play with fitted and oversized silhouettes in one look, sew a bodysuit like Ariane and layer it with an oversized button-up like Roan, but leave it unbuttoned.

Sew a smart look with a collared blouse, like Romie, layered under a classic bomber, like Larkin.

Ambassador Projects

Some of the Seamwork Ambassadors sewed up the new patterns already!

Coral sewed the Iggy pants in heavyweight denim. Such a good outfit!

Nicci sewed the Iggy pants in cotton twill and used one button instead of two.

Emma made Iggy in Blackbird Crisp Cotton Chino Twill. “The pockets! They're roomy and deep enough to be secure.”
