Jackets, coats, and scarves, oh my!
It's that time of year again—at least in the northern hemisphere—when we dig through our closets and try and remember what our outerwear from the year before looked like and hope that it still fits. Each year, I have a little bit of regret inside me that I didn't spend more time planning and sewing a more involved project to make the perfect jacket or coat that I know I'll love this coming fall and winter seasons.
Sewing your own outerwear can be fun, rewarding, and a whole lotta work! It has always intimidated me. But as I look around at the sewing community, I see sewists conquer amazing jackets and coats, and it really inspires me to give it a try!
This month, we challenge you to make an outerwear piece. Outerwear can mean different things to people, so we want to open this up to YOUR interpretation of an outerwear piece. You can use any pattern you'd like. We want you to have fun, feel part of a community, and be encouraged to make something you'll be proud of.
Head over to the community to find out more about the challenge and pledge to join. You'll also find out what the categories you can potentially win in are. There are prizes involved!
To start this challenge, I want to share a list of pattern ideas and some of my favorite outerwear projects.
Your make does NOT need to be a Seamwork pattern, so here are some of our pattern recommendations outside of Seamwork:
Named Harriet Lumberjacket
Here are some of my favorite outerwear makes out there currently:
@sewdiyblog makes Jill look so cozy and effortless.
@luckysewandsewing's version of Jill is cool and fun. Love that fabric.
@favouritepeopleapparel look at those pockets!
@miekomade's Camden is sweet and looks like the perfect layering piece.
@sewinthegarden's Audrey is pure happiness. I love colored denim!
@theunfinishedseamstress makes Lilliana look like the perfect professional yet casual piece.
We try hard to give you options at Seamwork, so here are some of our outerwear patterns:
I hope you are feeling inspired and ready to get planning and making a stellar outerwear piece! We can't wait to see what you make.
Remember to join the challenge on the community here.
