Welcome to the October Update

Layer up with Piedra and Lilliana.

September 30, 2017

Hello Seamworkers,

And welcome to the October issue of Seamwork! Like many lovers of clothing, fall is my absolute favorite season. I find it hard to resist the colors, layers, and accessories that personify the season. Though September ushers in a barrage of fall trends and fashion, October—at least here in Portland—is when the weather finally permits partaking in said fashion. This fall, I am excited to mix unexpected jewel tones with warm autumnal shades while playing with plenty of layers.

This month, we are introducing two cool weather staples to the Seamwork lineup! Meet the Piedra dress and the Lilliana jacket. The Piedra dress and Lilliana jacket perfectly pair with one another as well as with many of your Seamwork favorites, making fall layering easy.

The Piedra dress is a knit shift dress that features long, fitted sleeves and a jewel neckline. The above-the-knee length pairs perfectly with tights for chilly weather. Try making the Piedra dress in a cozy wool jersey or a textural double knit for an elevated look. The Lilliana jacket is a classic boxy jacket inspired by the timeless Chanel look. This jacket boasts simple construction and a bound edge finish. Make the Lilliana in a tweed for a chic look or use faux leather for an edgy staple.

In addition to these two new patterns, the October issue of Seamwork explores techniques, ideas, and resources to help renew your creativity in the coming month. This month, Brooks Ann Camper teaches you how to create perfect bound edges using couture techniques. In Block Paper Scissors, our pattern designer, Anna, teaches three pattern hacks to help you customize your Piedra dress. And Sarai discusses how you can use color in your wardrobe to tell a visual story.

Make sure to check out the Patterns in this Issue feature to see all the ways you can customize Piedra and Lilliana to fit your wardrobe needs.

As always, I look forward to seeing your inspired makes.

Happy sewing,
