Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

The Rey belt bag and bucket hat are the perfect accessories to kick off your spring and get you ready for summer—and they are both so fun to sew.

For a total palate cleanser, shop for playful buckles, webbing, and 14” zippers for the belt bag. This bag has a fully lined pouch with darts and a gusset to store more of your stuff and an adjustable strap to cinch it around your waist. It’s scrap-busting, and it also helps you learn some new sewing skills, like sewing a reverse corner.

Make the Rey bucket hat if you need a little break from sewing clothing. Wouldn’t it be great to say that you made your own hat? This hat is reversible, lined, perfect for scrap-busting, and comes in three sizes. Use contrasting or matching topstitching along the brim, and if you plan to be outdoors, pick a UV protective fabric.

Fabric & Supplies

Belt bag: Heavyweight woven fabrics such as canvas, twill, denim, linen, linen blends, duck cloth, waxed canvas, and faux leather or medium weight woven fabrics such as quilting cotton, chambray, oxford, or madras. If using medium weight fabrics, interfacing is recommended.  Bucket hat: Heavyweight woven fabrics such as canvas, twill, denim, linen, linen blends, duck cloth, waxed canvas, and faux leather.

Belt bag and bucket hat: Medium weight cottons such as quilting cotton, chambray, oxford, or madras.

Belt bag: Regular zipper foot, All-purpose polyester sewing thread, Topstitching thread, Sewing machine needle, Topstitching needle, One 1" (2.5 cm) adjustable side release buckle or parachute clip, One 1" (2.5 cm) slider, One 14" (35.6 cm) zipper, 1 1/8 yards (1 meter) of 1" (2.5 cm) webbing, Optional: 5/8 yards (.6 meters) of lightweight fusible interfacing. Bucket hat: All-purpose polyester sewing thread, Topstitching thread, Sewing machine needle, Topstitching needle, Optional: 1/2 yard (.5 meters) of lightweight fusible interfacing, optional walking foot Main fabric: Heavyweight woven fabrics such as canvas, twill, denim, linen, linen blends, duck cloth, waxed canvas, and faux leather.
