Welcome to the Learn to Sew With Bo class! Here at Seamwork, we like to think of sewing as an adventure. It has its challenges, some ups and some downs, but it will push you to take risks and learn new things. And in the end, you’ll have something really cool to wear that you made with your own hands.
When you are learning to sew, you can google any technique when you need to—you can find a ton of them in the Seamwork archives and on our Youtube channel, we’ll link them below.
But how do you know what you need to know? This can be the biggest challenge when learning how to sew.
In this class, we are going to show you how to think about sewing, how to approach learning new techniques, and how to keep a positive, curious attitude. We’ll do all of this as we teach you some of the fundamental steps you need to learn how to sew clothes you love to wear.
This class is part sewalong and part learn how to sew. The first half of the class will cover all the basics you need to know to start sewing your very first project, and those videos are totally free. We’ll cover your machine, your tools and notions, how to pick a project, fabric, and a size, how to cut and mark fabric, and some basic sewing techniques. The second half of the class is exclusively for Seamwork members, and will walk you through each step of sewing the Bo top, one of our most popular Seamwork patterns. If you are brand new to sewing, Bo is a really great first project. If you’ve been sewing for a while, it makes a really fun sew and you can finish in an afternoon.
So, if you’re new to sewing, or you want a quick refresh, watch the next 7 videos and we’ll cover the basics.
If you’re comfortable with sewing and just want to follow the sew along for the Bo top, head to lesson number 8.
Let’s get started!
