Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Surplice Wrap Dress

The Posie Dress is a feminine woven surplice design that blends subtle details with effortless charm. Featuring a fitted wrap-style bodice with bust and waist darts, Posie creates a flattering silhouette that feels secure and polished. The front bodice is lined, while the back neckline is neatly finished with single-fold bias tape.

A short A-line skirt adds playful movement and balance to the fitted top, and the matching waist tie—threaded through delicate thread chain belt loops—defines the waist with soft structure. Finished with short sleeves and a discreet side invisible zipper, Posie is a timeless, versatile dress

Fabric & Supplies

Light to medium weight woven fabrics such as linen, chambray, denim, swiss dot, shirting, batiste, lawn, crepe, challis, cupro, and Tencel.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, all-purpose sewing machine needle, one 14” (35.5 cm) invisible zipper, and an invisible zipper foot.

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Janiah is wearing the Posie dress in a size 0. We made a narrow shoulder adjustment, and added 1/2" to the waist and hip. Her measurements are bust: 33" (83.8 cm), waist 25 1/2" (64.8 cm), hip 35 1/2" (90.2cm), and she is 5' 7" (170.2 cm) tall.

Tambrie is wearing the Posie dress in a size 16, from our 12-30 size range. We moved the waist seam 1/2" lower, and added 1" to the overall length. Her measurements are bust: 43 3/4" (111.1 cm), waist 37" (94 cm), hip 46" (116.8 cm), and she is 5' 8" (172.7 cm) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
