Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

  • Fabric & Supplies

    Medium weight knit fabrics with at least 20% stretch, such as French terry, sweatshirt fleece, quilted knit, ponte, double knit, and sweater knit.

    Light weight knit fabrics with 20% stretch such as cotton jersey, bamboo jersey, rib knits, french terry, and pointelle knits.

    All-purpose polyester sewing thread, ballpoint sewing machine needle, ballpoint twin needle, five 7/8” (22 mm) buttons, 1/2 yard (.5 meter) light weight knit fabric, and 3/4 yard (.7 meter) fusible knit interfacing.

    00 – 30

  • Sizing & Fit

    Janiah is wearing the Thistle cardigan in a size 0 from our 00-18 size range. We reduced the shoulder 1/2" and added 1/2" to the sleeve length. Her measurements are bust: 33" (83.82 cm), waist: 25 1/2" (64.8 cm), hip: 35 1/2" (90.2 cm), and she is 5'7" (170.25 cm) tall.

    Tambrie is wearing the Thistle cardigan in a size 16 from our 12 - 30 size range. We reduced the bottom hem opening 1 1/2" and added 3/4" to the sleeve length. Her measurements are bust: 43 3/4" (111.1 cm), waist: 37" (94 cm), hip: 46" (116.8 cm), and she is 5'8" (172.7 cm) tall.

    00 – 30

    Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
