Sewing Roundup: What We're Making, What We're Loving, and Listener Questions

We received a great question from Amy in SW Michigan who asked: "What was your most impressive rescued sewing project and how did you go about making it work?"

Have a question for us? Leave it in a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts, and we'll answer it in a future episode!

Holiday Sewing Plans

If you're thinking about making a holiday outfit this season, we shared our personal picks for what we'd sew. Holiday sewing is a perfect opportunity to use those special fabrics you've been saving or try techniques that add a bit of festive flair to your handmade wardrobe.

Current Projects & Future Plans

We discussed what's currently on our sewing tables and what we're excited to make next. This time of year is perfect for transitional garments that can be layered as the weather changes, and we're feeling inspired by all the rich textures and colors of fall.

New Techniques We're Trying

One of the joys of sewing is that there's always something new to learn. We shared some techniques and skills we're currently exploring that might inspire you to step outside your comfort zone too.

Small Recommendations with Big Impact

Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference in your sewing practice. We recommended some books, podcasts, tools, and other resources that have been helpful in our own sewing journeys lately.

This or That: Marking Tools

Do you prefer chalk or a marker for marking your fabric? We discussed the pros and cons of different marking methods and when we prefer to use each one.

What's New at Seamwork

We're excited to announce our two new patterns for fall:

  1. Garnet Blouse - A classic pussy bow blouse with a relaxed cut, bust darts, lined yoke, and gathered details at the front and back yoke. It features full-length sleeves gathered into cuffs and a stand collar that extends into a beautiful bow. The member variation offers a more open neckline and smaller collar for a different look.

  2. Maple Peacoat - A fully lined peacoat with an oversized collar and double-breasted closure. It includes oversized single-welt pockets, adjustable sleeve hem tabs, and a single vent at center back. This is a perfect project for those looking to advance their tailoring skills.

We also have new content on our YouTube channel, including a video on sewing your own wool peacoat with 10 expert tailoring tips. If you've always wanted to try making a coat, this video will help you get started. Next week, we'll be sharing everything we made for our fall wardrobes, so be sure to subscribe to our channel so you don't miss it.

Our latest skills workshop was all about bagged linings, which is perfect if you're planning to make the Maple coat. And in December, we're offering a workshop on flat fell and French seams.

We also have a FREE pattern for fall—the Aims blouse! It's a romantic long-sleeve blouse with a rounded yoke and lots of gathers for drama. Every season we make one of our 250+ patterns available for free to our newsletter subscribers, so check the links below to sign up and get your pattern.
