The Fig Cardigan was inspired by our love for layering pieces that add polish without bulk. We wanted something you could wear buttoned as a top or open over a dress—an all-season, go-to piece. Fig’s sleek, close-to-the-body fit and shaped waist seams give it a tailored look, while knit fabrics keep it comfortable for everyday wear.

Fig Fitted Cardigan

The Fig Cardigan is the ultimate wardrobe multitasker. Wear it buttoned up as a sleek top or layer it over dresses, tanks, and tees for year-round versatility. With its classic crew neckline and flattering fitted shape, Fig blends comfort and style in one quick-to-sew project. Thoughtful details like long sleeves with cuffs, a neckband, and a neat buttoned front placket give it a polished finish you can dress up or down. Whether you’re sewing an everyday basic or a go-to layering piece, Fig is a fast, satisfying make you’ll reach for again and again.

Fabric and Fit

Choose medium-weight knit fabrics with at least 25% stretch for the Fig Cardigan—think ponte, rib knits, sweater knits, French terry or interlock. These fabrics will keep the shape of this top while allowing comfortable movement.

Lighter knits like jersey can work for a more relaxed look, while structured knits create a more tailored effect. Look for fabrics with good recovery so the cardigan retains its shape after wear. Avoid overly bulky sweater knits that could make seams too thick.

Fitting Tips

Fig is a close-fitting knit cardigan, so focus on getting the shoulder width and bust fit right for a polished look. Since it’s designed for stretch fabrics, choose your size based on full bust and waist measurements, and let the knit provide comfort and ease. Check body and sleeve length before hemming—knit garments can relax with wear, so you may want to shorten slightly to maintain the intended shape.
