This month’s patterns, Rosa and Yarrow, were designed to be just as easy to wear as they were to sew. With spring in the air and temperatures rising, we wanted to celebrate this season with patterns that felt soft and feminine but incredibly wearable.
Effortlessly stylish and perfect for skill building, the Rosa Dress sewing pattern is a must-have for confident beginners and beyond. This pullover design features a flattering V-neckline, short cut-on sleeves, and thoughtfully placed elastic casings at the high bust and waist for gentle shaping without zippers or buttons. Three rows of elastic at the waist provide comfort and definition, while the A-line skirt drapes gracefully below the knee. In-seam pockets at the waistline add everyday practicality. Rosa is the ideal project to hone fundamental sewing techniques while creating a dress that moves with you—easy to sew, easy to wear.
Cierra is wearing a size 8 Rosa dress, graded to a size 4 at the waist. We added 1/2" to the skirt length. Her measurements are bust: 36 3/4" (93.4 cm), waist: 27" (68.6 cm), hip: 39 1/4" (99.7 cm), and she is 5' 9" (175.3 cm) tall.
Iman is wearing the Rosa dress in a size 16 from our 12-30 size range. We added 1" to the skirt length, raised the armhole 1/2", and reduced the waist elastic by 1". Her measurements are bust: 44" (111.8 cm), waist: 36" (91.4 cm), hip: 46 3/4" (118.8 cm), and she is 5' 9 1/2" (176.5 cm) tall.
Fabric and Fit
Fabric recommendations: For Rosa look for lightweight woven fabrics such as cotton lawn, cotton voile, shirtings, cotton gauze, double gauze chambray, Swiss dot, linen, rayon challis, rayon crepe, and silk crepe.![[05-rosa][06-rosa]](/media/articles/2187/695880c7.jpg)
For a more ethereal effect, look for a fabric with ample drape like rayon crepe or challis. Or try a fabric with a more crisp hand like Linen or shirting to emphasize Rosa’s silhouette.
