Orla moodboard

The Orla Skirt is inspired by timeless, tailored style with a hint of playful edge. We wanted to design a piece that could shift seamlessly from casual weekends to dressed-up evenings. Orla’s A-line silhouette and clean panel lines make it both universally flattering and endlessly versatile. With thoughtful details like inseam pockets and full lining, it’s the kind of skirt you’ll sew once and then find yourself reaching for again and again.

The Orla Skirt is a chic A-line mini designed to sit comfortably at your natural waist for a flattering fit. Princess seam panels on the front and back create sleek lines, while inseam pockets with a button closure add a functional, stylish touch. Fully lined with a faced waist for structure and comfort, Orla closes with an invisible zipper at the back for a clean, tailored look. Finished with a classic double-fold hem, this versatile skirt pairs effortlessly with everything from casual tees to dressy blouses, making it a timeless piece you’ll sew and wear on repeat.

Orla Member Bonus

The Orla Member Bonus transforms the classic mini into a graceful midi-length skirt, offering even more styling possibilities. It keeps the same flattering A-line silhouette, princess seam panels, and fully lined, faced waist, but extends the hem for a more refined, elegant feel. The added length makes it perfect for transitional dressing—pair with sandals in warm weather or boots when it’s cool. With inseam pockets, a back invisible zipper, and the same clean finishing as the original, the Orla midi is a versatile upgrade with classic appeal.

Fabric and Fit

Orla mini skirt button detail

We’d like to give a special thank you to Yardblox for gifting us the beautiful washed cotton twill used in our Orla mini skirts. Both the houndstooth and plaid fabrics were a joy to sew and brought the designs to life perfectly.

For a crisp, structured look, choose medium-weight wovens such as cotton twill, denim, or corduroy. These fabrics highlight Orla’s panel seams and maintain the clean A-line shape.

For a softer drape with movement, try linen blends, brushed cotton, or lightweight wool suiting. Avoid overly heavy fabrics that could add bulk at the seams. Prints like plaids or houndstooth add visual interest, while solids keep it classic.

The lining should be lightweight and smooth—rayon bemberg or silk de chine work beautifully.

Fitting Tips

Focus on getting the waistline to sit comfortably at your natural waist without gaping. The princess seams make it easy to fine-tune the fit through the hips—pin-fit or baste the panels before sewing to ensure smooth lines. Since the skirt is fully lined, do a quick test fit before attaching the lining for easier adjustments.
