I Sewed a Dara Chemise Blouse. Here’s How I’m Styling It.

I love fluffy sleeves!

Posted in: Style & Wardrobe, Patterns • March 25, 2024

I just sewed the Dara blouse, and I think it's going to be one of my favorite things to wear this spring. I love fluffy sleeves!

In this video, I tell you all about the fabric I used and what I love about the pattern. I also share a bunch of ideas for how I'm going to wear it.

I made the Dara blouse in size 6. I sewed the pattern as-is without any modifications. I was thinking about sewing the member bonus version that has a sweet little ruffle on the sleeve, but I decided to keep it simple.

I love this pattern because the construction is really simple. It's really fast to sew.

I also like that the pattern includes the pieces for making bias tape in exactly the right length you need, and I love the way the bias tape looks in this floral fabric because it's so delicate and pretty.

Now let's talk about fabric. I never get tired of a ditsy print, so I used one for my Dara blouse. This is a Robert Kaufman Sevenberry fabric. It's a Petite Garden Lawn and the colorway is Sky.

I love that this fabric is a blue and pink colorway. These are my favorite colors to wear in spring. The fabric is really soft, it's lightweight, and has a silky hand.

Some lawns can be stiff, and I really like that this one has a bit more softness to it.

This pattern was so fast to sew. You sew the sleeves to the front, the back, and then sew the side seams. Then you gather the neckline and the sleeves. I took my time to make sure that the gathers were even all the way around . It was a nice change to just slow down and enjoy the process.

I finished the whole blouse in 3 hours.

So let’s talk about how I’m going to wear it!

I think there are a million ways to wear a fluffy blouse, which is why I love them so much.

Here are a few ways I am going to wear it this spring.

Dara + High-waisted Dark Denim Jeans

This first look is simple and so wearable. I paired Dara with my favorite pair of high-waisted dark denim jeans. Jeans are perfect for spring because there is so much in-between weather, and you can still wear a lighter top and feel springy.

I'm wearing a cute and comfortable pair of pink velvet Mary Janes and my go-to spring purse. It's a vintage Dooney & Bourke in cream and tan. It's a neutral color that goes with basically everything.

Dara + Vintage Denim Skirt

Staying with the denim theme, I'm wearing Dara with a simple vintage denim skirt from the 90s.

I like to wear flat shoes with a shorter skirt, so I am wearing my big buckle Birkenstocks in pink nubuck.

Dara + White Jeans

I also have a pair of white jeans. White jeans always look chic in spring, and I save these for a day when it's not rainy and muddy. White jeans are a closet staple for me in spring and summer.

If I wanted to dress up this look for a special spring event, I would wear my lace-up white sandals.

Dara + Corduroy Chelsea Jeans

For the last look, I'm wearing Dara with my corduroy Chelsea jeans. The pants have a different silhouette, giving it a tonal blue on blue. I pair this look with my Birkenstocks.

This blouse will be one of those things I can throw on with any of the denim in my closet.

My next project is a dress in a fabric I've had in my stash for over a year and was dying to use it for spring. If you want a sneak peek, be sure to watch my spring planning video I made.

Do you like to wear romantic blouses like this? What do you wear most with all the denim in your wardrobe? Comment and let me know!
