Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Description

High-Waisted Straight-Leg Jeans

The Vallie Jeans are straight-leg jeans designed for non-stretch denim, with a fitted waist, hip, and upper thigh that opens into a straight, generously proportioned leg. Inspired by the denim silhouettes of the 1970s, Vallie feels fresh and modern with an easy-to-wear shape that works effortlessly with the tops already in your wardrobe.

Vallie features all the details you expect from a great pair of jeans, including a traditional zipper fly with a tack button closure, curved front pockets, shaped back patch pockets, and a back yoke for a flattering fit. A discreet in-seam coin pocket is tucked between the waistband and pocket facing.

Seven belt loops provide plenty of anchor points for your favorite belt, while double-fold hems provide a clean, durable finish. Classic topstitching throughout highlights the construction and gives Vallie that unmistakable jeanswear character.

Pair them with your favorite tee, tucked-in blouse, or fitted sweater for an effortlessly modern take on vintage-inspired denim.

Fabric & Supplies

Medium to heavy bottom weight fabrics such as denim, twill, and corduroy.

Lightweight to medium weight woven fabrics such as chambray, poplin, quilting cotton, or shirting.

All-purpose polyester sewing thread, all-purpose sewing machine needle, 1 1/4 yards (1.1 meters) fusible interfacing, one 5" (12.7 cm) metal zipper, and one 5/8" (15 mm) tack button.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Eden is wearing the Vallie jeans in a size 2, graded to between a 4 and a 6 at the hip and throughout the leg. We also added 1 3/4" to the rise depth and 1" to the inseam length. Her measurements are waist: 25 3/4" (65.4 cm), hip: 37 1/2" (95.25 cm), and she is 5'9" (175.3 cm) tall.

Morgan is wearing the Vallie jeans in a size 20. Her measurements are waist: 41" (104.1 cm), hip: 52" (132.1 cm), and she is 5'9" (175.3 cm) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
