The whole Seamwork team sewed this month’s patterns!

Posted in: Patterns • January 31, 2019

A bunch of us here at Seamwork HQ decided to sew this month’s patterns and share them with you.

We know it helps to see finished examples of Seamwork patterns made in different fabrics and on different body types. We’re lucky to work with very talented models every month, but if we also share our finished projects, you’ll get a better idea of how you can make the patterns fit your style and your body.

So read on to see what we made this month.

We Sewed the Quince Day Robe

The best thing about the Quince day robe is that you can make a total of 16 variations from one pattern. You can choose from two length options, plus optional sleeve cuffs, pockets, and belt. This means Sarai, Haley, and Robin made four entirely different versions of the Quince day robe.

Sarai’s Drapey Duster

Fabric: Silk noil from Blackbird Fabrics.
Size: Sarai made a size 4. Her measurements are 37”, 27 1/2”, 38” and she is 5’4”.
Adjustments: No adjustments! She included all panels, pockets, and the waist-tie.
Notes: “I feel like a cool art teacher. Sometimes I put it on at home—the raw silk is warm and insulating, but not itchy like a wool sweater, ideal for loungewear or daywear.”

Haley’s Minimalist Denim Jacket

Fabric: Lightweight denim.
Size: Haley made a size 12. Her measurements are 42”, 33”, 45” and she is 5’2”.
Adjustments: Haley sized down a little to make sure that the stiffness of the denim didn’t create an overwhelming shape. She chose the jacket length and omitted the sleeve cuff, sleeve panels and the waist-tie.
Notes: “I love denim jackets, and I wanted to play with the idea. I can wear it with jeans and a T-shirt and feel very cool and put together in an effortless way.”

Robin’s Rockstar Robe

Fabric: Poly snakeskin print and microfiber contrasting details.
Size: Robin made a size 4. Her measurements are 35 1/2”, 30”, 38” and she is 5’4”.
Adjustments: She chose the jacket length and omitted the sleeve cuff, bottom sleeve panel, and waist-tie.
Notes: “I feel rock ’n roll. It’s the perfect year-round layering piece.”

Robin’s Watercolor Day Robe

Fabric: Watercolor seersucker by Hokkah from Finch Knitting and Sewing Studio.
Size: Robin made size 4. Her measurements are 35 1/2”, 30”, 38” and she is 5’4”.
Adjustments: She chose the jacket length and used the size 6 sleeve length.
Notes: “It is so comfortable; it feels like chic loungewear. I feel pulled together yet relaxed.”

We Sewed the Brit Dress

Have you ever tried to hack your favorite dress pattern into a top? With a simple, fitted shape, the Brit dress is easy to lengthen or shorten, like Taylor did below.

Chelsea’s Little Velvet Dress

Fabric: Ribbed velvet knit.
Size: Chelsea made a size 8. Her measurements are 38”, 28”, 39” and she is 5’2”.
Adjustments: She raised the armscye 1”.
Notes: “I feel beautiful and girly. Even though it’s simple to make, it’s easy to dress up.”

Taylor’s Cropped Brit Top

Fabric: Ribbed knit from Bolt.
Size: Taylor made a size 16. Her measurements are 44”, 36”, 48”.
Adjustments: She added a turtleneck and shortened the dress into a top.
Notes: “It’s cozy and cute—a wardrobe basic with flair.”

Hannah’s Swingy Bishop-sleeved Dress

Fabric: French terry from Bolt.
Size: Hannah made a size 8, graded to a 12 at the hips.
Adjustments: She sized up for a swingy silhouette.
Notes: “I’m super comfy but look dressed. It feels like a sweatshirt, so it’s the perfect fall or winter dress.”
