We created our skill levels according to the techniques required to sew each pattern, but our patterns will teach you everything so don't be afraid to sew above your skill level!

Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

    Pencil Pants

    The Lars Pants are sleek, high waisted, pencil pants designed for stretch wovens, offering a polished look with all-day comfort. Fitted throughout, Lars hits at the natural waist and features single front and double back waist darts for subtle shaping and a flattering silhouette. An invisible side seam zipper maintains a clean finish, while back, single welt pockets with button closure adds a classic touch. The waist is finished with a facing for a smooth, structured fit, and a side slit at the hem adds ease and visual interest. A skill-building project, Lars is a versatile wardrobe essential perfect for dressing up or down.

    Eden is wearing Lars sewn in a stretch suiting. We paired it with an Astoria Sweater.

  • Fabric & Supplies

    Medium to heavy weight stretch woven fabrics with 25% stretch, such as denim, twill, or corduroy. 

    Lightweight woven linings such as acetate, rayon, or silk

    All-purpose polyester sewing thread, sewing machine needle, 1 yard (1 meter) fusible interfacing, two 5/8" (15 mm) buttons, 1 1/2 yards (1.4 meters) 1/4" (6mm) (twill tape, 10" (25 cm) invisible zipper, and a hook and eye closure.

    Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

  • Sizing & Fit

    Eden is wearing the Lars pants in a size 0, graded to a 4 at the hip and throughout the leg. We increased the rise depth 1 1/2". Her measurements are waist: 25 1/4" (64.1 cm), hip: 37" (94 cm), thigh: 21 1/4" (54 cm), and she is 5'8" (172.7 cm) tall.

    Franki is wearing the Lars pants in a size 20. We increased the rise depth 1/2" and reduced the inseam length 1 1/2". Her measurements are waist: 41" (104.1 cm), hip: 52 1/2" (133.4 cm), thigh: 31" (78 cm), and she is 5'6 1/2"

    Currently, the size range 00-18 (Misses) is drafted for a C cup and the size range 12-30 (Curvy) is drafted for a DD. Both size ranges are drafted for a height of 5'8". Learn more about our sizing here.
