Beginner

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

Vintage-Inspired Tank Dress

Ruby is a pull-over tank dress with a soft, chemise-inspired silhouette and an easy, romantic feel. Designed for everyday wear with a touch of vintage charm, it’s the kind of piece that feels relaxed yet thoughtfully shaped.

Ruby features an upper bust band that offers gentle structure, while elastic encased at the center back adds subtle shaping and comfort through the bodice. Wide shoulder straps keep this dress bra-friendly, and a drawstring waist allows you to define the fit to your preference.

From there, a straight skirt falls to just below the knee, creating a simple, elongating silhouette that moves effortlessly through the day.

Fabric & Supplies

Lightweight to medium weight woven fabrics such as linen, chambray, batiste, lawn, clip dot, seersucker, poplin, quilting cottons, shirting, double gauze, rayon challis, rayon crepe, cupro, silk, and Tencel.

1/8 yard (.1 meter) 2" (54 mm) elastic, all-purpose polyester sewing thread, and an all-purpose sewing machine needle.

Refer to size chart for amount of fabric needed for your size.

00 – 30

Sizing & Fit

Ilisa is wearing the Ruby dress in a size 2. We added 3/4" to the skirt length and 1" to the yoke width. Her measurements are bust: 34"(86.4 cm), waist: 25 1/2" *64.8 cm), hip: 38 1/2" (97.8 cm), and she is 5' 9" (175.3 cm) tall.

Alexandra is wearing the Ruby dress in a size 18 from our 12 -30 size range. We added 1/2" to the yoke width, moved the straps in 3/8" each, and reduced the skirt length by 1". Her measurements are bust: 45 1/2"(115.6 cm), waist: 38" *96.5 cm), hip: 49 1/2" (125.7 cm), and she is 5' 5" (165.1 cm) tall.

00 – 30

Sizes 00-18 (Misses) are drafted for a C cup. Our size 8 fit model is 5’8”. Sizes 12-30 (Curvy) are drafted for a DD cup. Our size 20 fit model is 5’9”. Learn more about our sizing here
