Posted in: Patterns • September 1, 2024

Sage is a fitted button-up with a beautifully tailored bodice featuring princess seams and a subtly shaped center front hem. The neckline is meticulously finished with lining on the center front and back panels. A sewn-on placket with buttons adds a touch of classic detailing, while the full sleeves, gathered at the hem with an elastic casing, create a dramatic yet graceful effect.

Fabric and Fit

Fabric recommendations: Look for lightweight or medium-weight woven fabrics such as cotton lawn, cotton gauze, voile, chambray, swiss dot, rayon challis, linen, rayon crepe, and silk.

Fabric qualities to look for: It’s important to consider a fabric’s drape when sewing this top. Princess seams look lovely in drapey and more structured fabrics, but the garment will hang differently on your body depending on the fabric.

Drapier fabrics like rayon and silk will hang nicely on your body, creating a more flowy silhouette. Fabrics with less drape, like linen and lawn, will emphasize the princess seams and appear more tailored.
