Skill Level Guide

We created our skill levels according to the techniques required to sew each pattern, but our patterns will teach you everything so don't be afraid to sew above your skill level!

Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced Intermediate

Advanced Intermediate sewing patterns feature specialty skills and focus on exploring niche sewing. You'll find projects like swimwear, lingerie, bias-cut garments, and lined outerwear.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

• Fabric & Supplies

  Main Fabric: Medium weight knit fabrics with 4-way stretch and at least 50% stretch, such as cotton jersey, bamboo jersey, rib knits, and ITY knits.

  Supplies: All-purpose polyester sewing thread, a ballpoint sewing needle, and a ballpoint twin needle.

• Sizing & Fit

  Janiah is wearing a size 00 Farah wrap top. We graded to a size 4 at the waist and hip, made broad shoulder and bicep adjustments, and lengthened the sleeves and ties. Her measurements are 32" (81.3 cm), 27 1/2" (69.9 cm), 38" (96.5 cm), and she is 5'7" (1.70 m)tall.

  Daron is wearing a size 22 Farah top. We did a broad shoulder adjustment and reduced the waist by 1" (2.5 cm) and graded to a 20 at the hip. Her measurements are 50" (127), 42" (106.7 cm), 51 1/2" (130.8 cm), and she is 5'10" (1.78 m) tall.

  Our Misses patterns are drafted for a C cup and our Curvy patterns are drafted for DD. Both are drafted for a height of 5'8" (172 cm).
