Skill Level Guide

We created our skill levels according to the techniques required to sew each pattern, but our patterns will teach you everything so don't be afraid to sew above your skill level!

Beginner

Beginner sewing patterns teach the most foundational sewing techniques. These patterns focus on the basics like sewing and finishing straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple shaping methods such as darts and gathers. In addition, beginner patterns omit closures, making them perfect if you are new to sewing or are looking for a quick and easy make.

Advanced Beginner

Advanced Beginner sewing patterns expand on the skills learned at the beginner level, helping you to build confidence and range as a sewer. You'll find simple knitwear projects, bias tape finishing techniques, and begin to explore closures at this skill level.

Intermediate

Intermediate level sewing patterns focus on more precision sewing. In this skill level, you'll learn specialty closures. Intermediate patterns also introduce the skills needed for simple lingerie and athletic wear projects.

Advanced

Advanced sewing patterns require great precision and time investment. You'll find tailored pieces in this category with elevated details like bound buttonholes and welt pockets.

• Fabric & Supplies

  Main Fabric: Light to medium weight knits with four-way stretch with 50% stretch and good recovery, such as cotton jersey, bamboo/soy jersey blends, double brushed polyester knit, mesh, and rib knit, mesh, stretch lace, and rib knit.

  Supplies: All-purpose polyester sewing thread, Ballpoint sewing machine needle, Four 1/2" (13 mm) rings and two sliders, 1 1/2 yards (1.4 meters) 1/2" (13 mm) wide bra strapping, 1 1/2 yards (1.4 meters) 3/8" (10 mm) picot elastic, 1 yard (.9 meters) of 3/4" picot elastic (20 mm) (sizes 00-16) or 1" (2.5 cm) picot elastic (sizes 12-26), One hook and eye bra closure. Sizes 00-16: 3 hook closure finishing at 2 1/4" (5.7 cm). Sizes 12-26: 4 hook closure finishing at 3" (10.2 cm).

• Sizing & Fit

  Solana is wearing a size 14 Robin bralette reduced by 1” at the bust (along the curve of the princess seam) and increased by 1” at the underbust (added to the side seam at the bottom edge of the bra). Her full bust measures 41”, and her underbust measures 37”.

  Our Misses patterns are drafted for a C cup and our Curvy patterns are drafted for DD. Both are drafted for a height of 5'8" (172 cm).
