Introducing the Callen Sweater and Bay Coat!

Two new patterns from Seamwork give you two completely unique sewing experiences.

Posted in: Patterns • January 1, 2024

This month’s patterns give you two totally different sewing experiences. One is a thoughtful, approachable knit project, and the other is an advanced pattern that will help you slow down, enjoy your creative prowess, and learn new soft tailoring techniques.

Keep reading to meet the Callen sweater and Bay coat!

Meet the Callen Sweater

Callen looks like a sweater but feels like a sweatshirt. This pattern was designed with elevated style in mind. The faux button closure at the neckline is the focal point, but you can also find other high-end details like a faced boat neckline, dramatic wide-cut 3/4 length sleeves, and faced notched hem. Make Callen your own by showcasing your vintage button stash or going nautical with a classic sailor stripe.

The Callen bonus adds a slim-cut sleeve and cuff to the sweater, making it perfect for layering.

Fabric and Fit

Fabric recommendations: Look for medium-weight knit fabrics with at least 20% stretch, such as French terry, ponte, double knit, and sweater knit. You want knits that have some body and weight to support the buttons on the shoulders.

Meet the Bay Coat

Create something lasting for yourself with the Bay overcoat. Bay is a classic tailored coat that will always stay in style.

This advanced sewing pattern lets you slow down and enjoy exploring soft tailoring techniques and traditional details. Bay features a comfortable tailored fit, notch collar, two-piece sleeves, shoulder pads, sleeve head, generous welt pockets, and a functional vent, and is fully lined.

Make Bay in a sophisticated neutral coating, or go bold with an unexpected color or even a print. Either way, you’ll have a coat you’ll love to wear season after season.

Fabric and Fit

Fabric recommendations: Look for medium-weight or heavyweight fabrics such as coatings, boucle, denim, twill, velvets, and corduroy.

Fitting tips: Choose your size based on your bust measurement (that way they don't need to make sleeve and armhole adjustments). You can grade to the waist and hip measurements, but consider the ease before deciding to do so. It may not be necessary, and it's easiest to preserve the original lines because there are several pieces that will need to be adjusted.
